GOHS Band Booster Board Meeting

The meeting was called to order by John Rossi at 6:10 pm. He had us introduce ourselves and our specific responsibilities.

Joann Larsen shared that 8 of our GOHS musicians went on a European 16 day tour with the California Ambassadors of Music, a 177 member honor band whose members were recommended and selected by band directors.
Golf Tournament: Joann Larsen
Passed out fliers to everyone to start soliciting golfers or sponsors. Each family is being asked to secure either a foursome or a sponsor level of some type, or provide a name that we can contact to sponsor our efforts. Marsi will email a PDF file of both fliers and cover letter to every band family. Auction Baskets for event will be handled like last year where we choose 10-12 themes for baskets and each family will be asked to donate one item valued at $20-25 to go into one basket. *Avalon Management has already committed to being a Shirt Sponsor at $3,000.00.
Washington, D.C. Trip: Joann Larsen passed out a sponsor letter that families can use to solicit sponsorship donations for individual accounts from friends, relatives and businesses they know.
Website: Initial problem has been fixed and Jerry is in the process of reestablishing hyperlink connections to website. Pete offered to contact a friend of his, Keith Lauban, who is a web designer to have him redo ours. He estimated the cost at $500. John Rossi will form a committee to gather ideas in the meantime for our new site. Marsi moved to spend NTX $500 to redesign our website. Motion carried.
Uniforms: Lucy Thudium
Uniform fittings will continue Wed/Thurs 12:30 to 4:30 during band camp, once first payment has been made of band fees. They will work through section by section as available.
Lucy reported we are at risk of running out of smaller sizes of uniforms and seem to be missing uniforms, shoes and shakos. Many students took home shoes/shakos in gear bag at end of last year. Marsi will send out an email asking people to check around for uniforms, etc and return to school ASAP. Shoes are in bad shape and we may need to purchase 10 pair to get us through the season. She hopes to have a list of what is needed by end of band camp. Lucy recommends that next year we require each band member to purchase and maintain their own shoes. Also requested purchase of new locks to keep items secured in uniform room.
This year, band members will be totally responsible for their uniforms, etc. Parents/Students will sign a checkout form agreeing to the maintenance of uniform and will be responsible for replacement charges if damaged. Uniforms will only be release once first band fee payment has been made. Uniforms will be kept at home and brought in periodically for maintenance checks throughout the year.
We need 5 new presentation capes.
Expenses:
Color Guard: Flags: $1,552.52
Uniforms: $1,500 (will pay half now and half upon delivery – expense already approved)
Band: Writing: $1,500 (not in budget)
Jeanne motioned to amend budget for writing allocation. Motion carried.
Fundraisers:
Jerry noted there is a company getting rid of Varsity Jackets (our style/color) and they want to sell them to us for $80/ea.
Water: John/Pam will arrange with the water districts to get cases of water (Eastern, Western, and Rancho California).
Requested that Marsi email rosters to each liaison (Meg/Jazz Band, Jacki Butzke& Sue Laubach/Guard, Don Craven/Drum line) Lucy requested Uniform email regarding new check out procedure.
Wish Lists and Pete: Announced we will be hosting once again SCPA Championships/2 Day and WGI Regional Finals/1 Day. Both organizations agreed to hold finals at GOHS due to the high quality of our first shows. Gave a wish list of items that he would like to see us procure for the band as funding permits.

Synthesizer cart @ $250
