BOOSTERS

The Spirit of Great Oak Band & Color Guard

Minutes For:  Booster Board Meeting

December 4, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Board President, John Rossi.

MINUTES:  The minutes from the November 6th booster board meeting were reviewed and approved as presented.

FINANCIALS:  The Treasurers report presented a net income of $91,853.52 with total expenses at $54,232.37 and a total net income of $37,621.15.  A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the treasurer’s report & expense report.

NEW BUSINESS:

A draft budget for the new upcoming overnight trip, scheduled for February 8-9, was reviewed by all in attendance.  The Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Winter Drum Line and Winter Guard have been invited to attend this trip.  The Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble will be performing at California Adventure on February 8, 2008.  On Saturday, February 9, the students will be tentatively attending a clinic put on by some of the Blast members and then will be going to see the 2:00 p.m. matinee showing of “Blast.”  A motion was made, seconded and carried to present this proposal to the general parent boosters meeting at 6:30 p.m. this same evening.

A motion was made, seconded and approved that the chaperones will have to pay their own way and those who are interested in volunteering for this trip will be selected from the criteria of the amount of volunteer time they have put in.

For all of the students and selected chaperones there is a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 due no later than Monday, December 17.  Please make checks payable to GOALS/BAND.  The $50.00 is to be used toward the trip and the remaining balance due will be implemented into the due dates of perspective groups the students are a part of.  All students attending this trip must be current on their fees or they will not be invited to attend.  A new schedule of payment due dates will be posted on the band website shortly.

The board decided that because Concert Band is a class and there are no scheduled trips, the students in Concert Band only will have no fees.

FUNDRAISING:  We still have the HR Car Opportunity Drawing through Paradise Chevrolet that is ongoing until February 16, when the winner will be drawn.  The popcorn fundraiser is another approved fundraiser that is approved by GOALS for distribution.  Tammi Payton will be getting all of the order forms to distribute very soon.  We have our on-going fundraisers that are posted onto the website.

JERRY’S JARGON:  The WGI organization, that our Winter Drum Line is a part of, has asked if our school could host the WGI Regional’s Competition on March 29 & 30.  There are a few draw backs compared to the SCPA semi finals, of which, we are already scheduled to host on April 5 & 6.  Some of the drawbacks would be, we will not receive ticket sales, and we would have to pay for the cost of lodging and food for the judges and possibly the tabulators.  After careful consideration and discussion, a motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the hosting of the WGI Percussion Regional Competition.  Our board feels this is a welcomed opportunity to generate funds for the benefit of our students that are part of the Spirit of Great Oak Band and Guard.  The Band & Guard will now be the host to the following competitions:

·         February 16 – 3rd Annual Spirit of the Valley Winter Guard Competition

·         March 13 & 14 – SCSBOA Concert Band Festival

·         March 29 & 30 – WGI Percussion Regional Competition

·         April 5 & 6 – SCPA Percussion Semi Final Competition

Our next General Band Parent Meeting after this evening is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22 6:30 p.m. in the PAC if available, with the band room being the alternate location.

The meeting was adjourned with the next board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the band room.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Marshall,
