London’s New Year’s Day Parade, 2013
The Spirit of Great Oak Band & Guard has been honored to be one of approximately twenty-five marching bands competitively selected to participate in one of the world's largest parades: London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2013!
Almost half a million people line the streets of London and 220 million watch worldwide on television. The route passes Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square on its two mile path ending at the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. We are excited!
You are invited: to join the Spirit of Great Oak “All Star” Band & Guard for their 1st international tour to Her Majesty The Queen of England's Golden Crown Jubilee New Year's Day Parade.
This unique opportunity is open to all former, current & future Spirit Band & Guard members (minimum age of 6th grade). Family members are invited to join as “roadies.” If you are alumni, email me at jburdick-rutz@tvusd.k12.ca.us
When: December 27th, 2012 - January 3rd, 2013.
Where: London, England
Why: This is a once in a lifetime honor and invitation from the HRH Queen of England and the Lord Mayors of London for our students to represent California and the United States of America in one of the largest and most viewed parades in the world. This experience will broaden our student’s view of the world, teach history and geography “hands on”, provide a premier performance opportunity and connect our talented students to the worldwide community.
We hope you will choose to join this experience by turning in a registration form and non-refundable $150 deposit by Oct. 31, 2011.
What’s Included:
• Round trip airfare on British Airways –
• 6 nights accommodation in a centrally located hotel in London
• A full day tour of 2 cities for example Oxford and Stratford Upon Avon
• Half day guided coach tour of the City of London, with photo stops
• Half day guided tour of Windsor Castle

Estimated cost: $3200. We hope to reduce this amount by at least 15% through group fundraising to where each traveler’s cost would be $2,750. We will update the reduction as we meet fundraising goals.
“London Tour” rehearsal / preparation schedule:
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at a later date. The Preliminary Plan will be to rehearse once on a Sunday afternoon in September 2012, twice in October 2012, 3 times in November 2012 and 6 times in December (including two local parade performances)
